Peadar's Blog
Cad é mar a tá sibh go léir to all those out there on the blogsphere. This is the first of hopefully many blogs that I hope to post on this site, time permitting. The purpose of t he blog will be to keep the people of Meath up to date with events happening in your area. I would also be very interested to hear your views. These can be emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view itI will make an effort to report on what happens at each Navan Town Coucil meeting and how it relates to you. I will also do by best to describe the behind the scenes shenanigans that occur.
I also aim to detail the major issues in the county including job creation or the lack there of and the resultant slide into disadvantage of thousands of our friends and neighbours. Issues such as Navan hospital, the rail line and housing will be discussed and monitored.
I will detail key developments in our campaign for economic and political unity on the island of Ireland and developments with regards the Irish language. It is with the latter that I will start first.
3 weeks ago we in Sinn Féin tabled an amendment to the Navan Town Council which sought to ensure that all future housing and infrastructure developments in the Navan Area would have an Irish Language name only. This motion was an effort at positive discrimination for the language in the town. Currently only 2% of estates in the town have an Irish language name. Cllr Pádraig FitzSimons and Cllr Jim Holloway campaigned hard against the Irish language initiative over a number of weeks. In the end I’m glad to say we were successful.
News spread and last week with the help of Facebook and other social media our Sinn Féin colleagues in Dublin built up support and were successful in passing a similar motion. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/ireland/article6946010.ece
It shows you what political will, social media and a grá for the language can do. So slán le Hampton Rise, Windsor Downs agus eile. Fáilte le Radharc na hAbhainn agus Ard na Rí!!! ‘
